about

This one is about things you know are true in your "heart of hearts". Sometimes at the outset you fool yourself for awhile by thinking you're wrong and want to deny it, but you're heart knows what's up and eventually your brain will catch up. I was in a frustrated mind set when I wrote this song and remembered something a friend told me about life, and this wound up being the first line of the song. I also want to mention that somehow a Juliana Hatfield song popped into my head that had the lyric, "sweet on the inside but bitter on the inside" in it. I thought it might work for this song, so I flipped it around and changed it a bit and used it. Thanks, Juliana!

lyrics

A friend of mine told me you are where you are now
Because of things you did 10 years ago
First I thought it was bullshit
But now I know it to be true
Things like that always seem to sneak up on you

In your heart of hearts
In your heart of hearts

I don't tell too many lies
The ones I do are to myself
Like everything's going to be all right
But no matter how bitter I taste on the outside
Inside I'm sweet candy coated sunshine

In my heart of hearts
In my heart of hearts
